i added my last paycheck to my account.. it was 167.00.. i went to check my account balance and it said i only had 107 $ available balance, but under that it said balance: 167.00 .. what does this mean? did i just get burnt for 60 bucks or what ? BEFORE I ADDED THE PAYCHECK I ONLY HAD 5 DOLLARS IN THE ACCOUNT, SO IT WASNT AN OVERDRAFT CHARGE|||If it was wages and you always put a check from the same employer into the same account, then realistically the whole ammount should be available immediately.
Banks usually allow a certain portion of checks to clear before the whole check is cleared. Last time I deposited a $3000 personal check when I had less than $50 in the account $600 was cleared immediatly but I still had to wait a week for the other $2500. Last time a deposited a check from the ATO (Australian version of IRS) for $700 it was cleared immediately. You shouldn't be charged for checks being deposited into your own account
Ask your employer to attatch a note with the next pay check stating that it is wages. You could always go into a branch of the bank that your employer uses and ask if they can cash the check, they may charge a fee for it though (western union charges for check cashing but I don't know what the ammount is that they charge)|||the ATM makes the first $100.00 of a deposit available right away. usually the rest is available the next business day or longer if they choose to put a hold on the funds.|||There is $167 in the account. However, only $107 is currently available to use. Banks can place a temporary hold on money for any number of reasons.
